What other organizations are you involved in?
I have my commitment as ED of KollaborationSF, and it doesn’t leave much time or energy to play a significant role in other orgs. BUT the beauty of Kollab is, because we are the org and movement that we are, we’re able to partner with so many other amaaaaazing community groups. We put on events and support one another by promoting and attending each others’ events – LiNK, AADP, Hyphen, SoulCiety, RAMA, NAAAP, the list goes on. So though I really wish I could say I’m involved in all these groups, I’ll have to allow our Kollaborations to suffice.
Greatest inspiration or passion?
My family. They drive me absolutely insane and bring out emotions that I sometimes forget I have, but at the end of the day, they are amazingly unique individuals that love, support, and challenge me. I see my parents and recount their paths that brought them to raise my brothers and me in this beautiful corner of the world so far from their original home, and I’m filled with awe and gratitude for their bravery and perseverance. I look at my brothers and love how different they are from me and I admire them for possessing traits I don’t. I appreciate all of them for loving me unconditionally no matter how crazy I am, calling me out when I need it (but not when I don’t -_- haha) and for helping me mold my own identity. I hope to make them proud to call me their daughter/sister.
Any other beautiful things you’d like to share with the world?
Music, theater, dance, writing, & all arts are a way for us to write history and also create that which never existed – my favorite part is that everyone plays a role in it, the artist as well as the audience. I believe everyone has something good to contribute to this world, whether you’re creating something yourself or simply appreciating someone else’s creation. I believe that when we have the freedom to be genuine, expressive individuals, we discover the real beauty in what sets us apart from others and also what bonds us all regardless of age, race, class, or gender. I hope everyone who attends a Kollaboration event leaves inspired to shine their own unique light, however big or small, in their own special way.
